Sewing Method: Swimsuit drawstring
Adding a drawstring to a swimsuit, this is for an outside drawstring,
You will need a small square of interfacing, we are going to button holes for the drawstring to exit and enter the garment.
It should be about twice the width of your elastic about 2 inches in length. Position on the garment where you want the drawstring to be, usually in the front center. Line it up with the raw edge of the fabric. Heat apply it, be careful not to melt the fabric.
After you apply the interfacing, do the button holes before you attach the elastic.
Mark on the fabric where you want to holes to be, the vertical alignment will be 1.5 times the width of your elastic, so the will be located in the middle of the elastic.
Then with your sewing machine do small buttonholes about ⅜” to ½” in length. I do about 1.25” apart from each other for the holes.
Then use seam ripper to open the holes.
Now attach the elastic, I used the ‘sew in elastic’ method. Now flip to the inside.
Make sure when you topstitch you leave enough room between the rows to accommodate the drawstring. I used ⅝” width elastic for the demo.
Thread the drawstring through and you done.
